About IP Lookup

Detect your public IP address automatically, see whether it is IPv4 or IPv6, and review browser and system details read locally on your device.

Public IP detection uses the ipify API. Browser details are processed in your browser and are not stored on our servers.

On public Wi-Fi, every site can see your digital address. Know what yours is—instantly—plus IPv4/IPv6 version and basic browser context. No signup, no account.

What Is an IP Address?

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a numeric label assigned to devices on a network. It tells the internet where to send data—like a return address on mail.

IPv4 looks like 203.0.113.5; IPv6 is longer (e.g. 2001:0db8::1). Most home users have one public IP visible to websites, assigned by your ISP or VPN exit node.

Your router also uses private addresses (192.168.x.x) inside your home—they never appear on the public internet.

How to Use the SnapToolsOnline IP Lookup

  1. Open the page—your public IPv4 address is fetched automatically via a lightweight IP detection service.
  2. Check the version badge—IPv4 or IPv6 based on the address format returned.
  3. Review system information detected locally in your browser (browser name, platform, language, screen resolution).
  4. Copy your IP with one click when you need it for VPN support, firewall allowlists, or troubleshooting.

This tool focuses on your own public IP and browser context. For ISP, city, or blacklist data on arbitrary IPs, use a dedicated geolocation or reputation service.

Use Case 1: Remote worker verifies VPN routing

Priya connects through a VPN that should exit in Germany. She opens IP lookup before each client call: if the address still reflects her home region, she knows the tunnel failed before sharing sensitive data.

Use Case 2: Developer documents a test environment

Carlos needs to whitelist his office IP for a staging API. He copies the public IP from this page, sends it to DevOps, and avoids guessing from router admin screens.

Common IP Lookup Mistakes

  • Confusing private IP (192.168.x.x) with public IP—only the router’s public address is visible online.
  • Assuming the tool shows your street address—standard IP pages show network-level data at best.
  • Using lookup tools that log your IP without reading their privacy policy.
  • Thinking IPv6 is inherently more traceable—both versions expose similar ISP-level visibility.

Advanced Tips

  • Run the lookup before and after connecting to a VPN—if the IP and ISP context change, the tunnel is likely active.
  • Copy IP plus browser/platform info when opening support tickets—fewer back-and-forth emails.
  • Remember dynamic IPs—home ISPs often rotate addresses after reboots or every few days.
  • For email abuse investigation, extract IPs from headers and use a full geolocation/reputation tool.

Heavy geolocation databases add city and ISP—but require third-party services. SnapToolsOnline keeps the experience fast and focused on what you need first: your public IP.

FAQ

What is an IP lookup used for?
It shows your public IP address so you can verify VPN routing, whitelist access, or understand what websites see from your connection.
Does this tool show my city or ISP?
Not on this page. You get your public IP, IPv4/IPv6 version, and browser/system details. Use a geolocation service for ISP or regional data.
Is SnapToolsOnline IP lookup free?
Yes—no signup, no credit card, and no captcha.
Does IP lookup work if I use a VPN?
Yes. It shows the VPN exit IP, not your home IP—useful to confirm the VPN is active.
How often does my public IP change?
Many home ISPs use dynamic IPs that change after reboots or every few days. Business lines are more often static.
What information does an IP lookup NOT show?
Your name, street address, email, phone, or browsing history. Those require legal process against your ISP, not a web tool.
Why might my IP differ from another website?
Timing, VPN state, or mobile network handoffs can change the address between requests.
Can I look up someone else’s IP here?
This page auto-detects your public IP. For arbitrary IP geolocation, use a dedicated lookup service.
Does IPv6 make me more traceable than IPv4?
No. Both reveal similar network-level visibility; IPv6’s longer format is not a GPS coordinate.
Where does the IP address come from?
We request your public IP from the ipify API. Browser details are read locally in your device—never uploaded for storage.
